Don Mann wins bid to build E&N Rail Trail

Saanich-based contractor will construct trail along one-kilometre gap in E&N Rail Trail

Saanich-based contractor Don Mann Excavating has won another large contract, this time to start the next segment of the E&N Rail Trail – Humpback Connector on the West Shore.

The trail will run along the former train route and will be constructed between Hallowell and Maplebank roads. CRD awarded Don Mann the project based on its $783,960 proposal.

Construction will begin in February-March.

“The contract is the start to filling the one-kilometre gap in this route,” said Barbara Desjardins, CRD board chair. “We are also working with the Town of View Royal, Esquimalt and Songhees Nations, and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure on further trail construction along Admirals and Hallowell roads.

Don Mann is currently completing the Wilkinson Road bridge and Colquitz River Trail improvement projects in Saanich and last month was awarded a $577,124 contract to install a high-pressure drain running out of the Rithet’s Bog Reservoir.
