Enviro award nominations sought

What do you do to help the planet? Saanich’s environmental advisory committee wants to know.

Nominees are being accepted for the 2011 environmental awards, honouring individuals, businesses and groups for their initiatives to go green.

“We want to acknowledge people and organizations who go above and beyond taking care of the environment,” Coun. Vicki Sanders, chair of the committee, said. “People learn from other people doing. And it’s becoming a real challenge to find someone doing something new and unique, because there is so much going on in our community.”

This is the 11th year the awards will be handed out.

“We see a lot more people today making big impacts on a local level,” Sanders said. “We can’t possibly recognize them all, but things have changed since 10 years ago. It’s not just people going out working on Bowker Creek and natural environments. We’re now looking at energy efficiency, recycling, community contributions.”
