Esquimalt Harbour warmest place in Canada Saturday morning

Warm temperatures not expected to last in Greater Victoria

While the rest of Canada has been in a deep freeze, Esquimalt Harbour was recorded to be the warmest place in the country Saturday morning.

The temperature in Esquimalt was about 5 C in the morning, according to Environment Canada. A short while later, Discovery Island near Oak Bay and Race Rocks Lightstation near East Sooke and Metchosin became the warmest places in Canada with a temperature of nearly 7 C.

The coldest place is Canada Saturday morning was Mayo, Yukon with a temperature of about -45 C.

Since 1992, the highest temperature recorded in Esquimalt on the same day of the year was in 2005. The temperature then was 13 C.

The lowest temperature recorded in Esquimalt on the same day of the year was in 1996 when the temperature was about -1 C.

However, these warm temperatures are not expected to last with cold weather coming to B.C.’s south coast Saturday night. The cold weather is expected to last into the latter half of the week with snowfall anticipated as well.
