Esquimalt’s Archie Browning Sports Centre is set to resume its role as a COVID vaccination clinic in the new year.

The township said although the centre was used as a vaccination site this past spring, only the curling rink will be used by Island Health to give out vaccines, and the rest of the facility will operate as public health restrictions allow.

Mayor Barbara Desjardins said, “We know this early ice closure must be truly frustrating for our curling community and appreciate their understanding. Curling has a long history in Esquimalt and we hope for a full season next year.”

The opening date of the clinic has yet to be determined; however, access to the curling rink has been curtailed to allow the clinic to be set up, and the township is in the process of informing the rink’s user groups of the closure.

The centre will be added to Island Health’s online clinic list once its hours of operation have been confirmed, and appointments are available for booking.

Those looking for more information on COVID vaccinations should visit www.islandhealth.ca, and those seeking information on how public health restrictions are impacting recreation in the township should visit esquimalt.ca/recreation.
