Evacuation orders have been issued for a second time for the Beatton Airport Road fire north of Fort St. John.

Evacuations ordered again in North Peace

Emergency reception centre at Fort St. John Arena reopens as people allowed to go home last week have to leave again

Evacuation orders have been reinstated for areas affected by the Beatton Airport Road fire north of Fort St. John.

The North Peace Arena in Fort St. John has been opened as an emergency reception centre, after conditions changed this week. Estimated at 15,000 hectares Sunday, the fire was 45 per cent contained as crews burned off areas of fuel.

Hundreds of people from the same area were allowed to go home last weekend after rain and snow slowed the fire.

The Siphon Creek fire burning across the Alberta border to the east was estimated at more than 60,000 hectares Sunday, and 30 per cent contained. B.C. Wildfire Service said the fire was not growing on the Alberta side, and the increase in size is a result of better mapping.

Two smaller fires are also being fought in the same area, the Halfway River fire at 2,000 hectares 30 km northeast of Hudson’s Hope and Carter Road fire at 510 hectares 10 km northwest of Hudson’s Hope.

B.C. Wildfire Service “fires of note” here.
