London Drugs has advised West Shore RCMP that what they originally believed to be “flu shot frauds” was, in fact, an online booking error.
In a release Wednesday morning, police warned people that a West Shore resident had been tricked into booking two $50 fraudulent flu shot appointments earlier in the week. The resident said that they received an email from London Drugs encouraging them to book their shots, but when they showed up for their scheduled appointment they were informed that no such appointments existed. At the time, staff told the resident that they had fallen victim to a fraud along with several other customers.
Management at London Drugs has since informed police that, after looking into the potential fraud further, they discovered that it was actually an online booking error. Affected customers have been refunded and London Drugs apologized for any inconvenience or anxiety it may have caused.
“We are glad this this situation was not a fraud however vaccination frauds do exist and have been reported to police in the past,” Const. Nancy Saggar said.
Police encourage people to visit the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre for a list of common scams and tips on how to avoid them.
