Saanich police have a Gordon Head home secured after a complaint came in earlier this afternoon about a possible drug lab inside.

Police have been at the house, in the 1900-block of Casa Marcia Cres., since around 1:30 p.m. Monday.

Upon police arrival one man fled, but was quickly arrested. Another man barricaded himself inside the home, but was convinced to exit less than two hours later after negotiating with a police officer.

As of 3:30 p.m., Sgt. Dean Jantzen says both men are in custody, and police are expected to be on scene throughout the evening conducting a security sweep and a subsequent drug investigation.

"They have to do a safety assessment of the environment – ensuring the safety of our members and the neighbours, first and foremost," he said. "Then we'll do a drug investigation."

Saanich fire department attended, too, Jantzen said, as there is an elevated risk of toxic fumes or explosion hazards.
