Is your dingy missing? Saanich police recover inflatable boat believed to be stolen

Saanich police are looking to identify the owner of an inflatable dingy and outboard motor believed to be stolen.

Just after 4 a.m., Wednesday, a patrol officer stopped a suspicious van near Glanford and Vanalman avenues.

In the passenger seat, the officer recognized a man with a history of property thefts.

Inside the van was an inflatable rigid hull dingy, an outboard motor and a bag with other items.

The occupants of the vehicle couldn’t explain why the dingy was wet, leading the officer to question whether the items were stolen.

"Saanich police request the assistance of the community to check to see if they are the victims of a theft of a dingy and outboard motor," said Acting Sgt. Jason Bland. "If you are able to identify the boat and motor by their uniqueness please contact the Saanich Police Department (250-475-4321) as soon as possible."
