Man arrested with imitation handgun

Man reportedly wearing Halloween costume draws police to Camosun College

Saanich Police were called to Camuson College’s Lansdowne campus Monday for a report of a man with a handgun.

Police received several calls about the incident shortly before 3 p.m. and were on scene within four minutes.

A 28-year-old Victoria man was arrested without incident and police seized an imitation firearm. Reports indicate the man was in camouflage gear as part of a costume.

“We would like to remind people that carrying an imitation firearm is extremely dangerous, even at Halloween,”  said acting Sgt. Jereme Leslie.  “Responding to this incident put many people at possible risk.”

Police are recommending one charge of having possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.  The suspect will appear in court in mid-December.
