An Esquimalt man was injured while attempting to slash a vehicle's tire at Pearkes Arena.

A 37-year-old Esquimalt man was injured during a parking lot rage incident outside Pearkes Arena.

Saanich Police report the man returned to his vehicle shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday to discover another vehicle had been parked extremely close to his. Police say the man then used a knife to puncture the tire of the nearby vehicle.

“Clearly the man was unfamiliar with the physics behind his actions, as not only did he puncture the tire, but he ended up stabbing himself too,” said acting Sgt. Jereme Leslie in a release.

The man then entered his vehicle and began driving to the hospital to get treatment for the self-inflicted wound.

“As he started to drive to the hospital he realized he was bleeding quite heavily and losing a lot of blood,” said Leslie. “The man had to pull over and call for an ambulance to pick him up and take him the rest of the way.”

The man was taken to hospital where he underwent immediate surgery on a severed artery in his leg.

Police are investigating potential mischief charges in relation to the incident. Anyone who may have witnessed the event is asked to contact Saanich Police at 250-475-4321.
