Medical issue likely cause of rural Saanich crash

Saanich police Sgt. Dean Jantzen said the driver, a female, suffered "some kind of medical issue" right before the accident, which resulted in her veering off the road and pushing the parked car into a nearby ditch.

A woman was taken to hospital after the vehicle she was driving flipped onto its side after striking a parked car in rural Saanich Thursday morning.

Saanich police Sgt. Dean Jantzen said the driver, a female, suffered "some kind of medical issue" right before the accident, which resulted in her veering off the road and pushing the parked car into a nearby ditch.

People were called at 7:20 a.m. about the crash, which occurred on West Saanich Road near Hartland Avenue.

The woman suffered minor injuries, but Jantzen said the medical emergency that likely caused the crash is the primary concern.

Traffic along West Saanich Road was temporarily closed in both directions.
