Noisy car leads to rash of charges

Muffler stop confirms stolen plates, impaired, unlicensed driver

A loud muffler caught the attention of a Saanich cop Saturday, so he queried the plates and found they had been reported stolen.

The Volkswagen Golf, which wasn’t stolen, was stopped around 11 p.m. and the driver was arrested for possession of stolen property. The officer also believed the man was under the influence of alcohol and administered a roadside breathalyzer, which he failed. He was given a 90-day driving prohibition and the car was impounded.

Police also learned that the 36-year-old Langford man hasn’t had a driver’s licence since 2006.
