Paperwork due for candidates in civic elections

The clock is ticking for anybody interested in getting involved in municipal politics prior to next month’s election.

Nomination period officially begins today and closes next Friday (Oct. 14) at 4 p.m. for candidates to officially declare their candidacy.

Qualified candidates seeking a mayor or council position must submit a complete nomination package to the legislative division at Saanich municipal hall (770 Vernon Ave.).

Saanich requires the signatures from 10 nominators supporting the nomination. Nominators must be registered electors of Saanich.

For those wishing to join the school board as a trustee, nomination forms are available at the Greater Victoria School District office, 556 Boleskine Rd., or by calling 250-472-0059.

They must also be dropped off at the Boleskine Road office before 4 p.m. on Oct. 14.

For the Saanich School District, nomination forms can be picked up at Saanich municipal hall, and must be returned to the legislative division by 4 p.m. on Oct. 14.
