A pedestrian suffered serious injuries after being struck by a driver in a Saanich crosswalk Thursday afternoon.

The Saanich Police Department said officers were called to the intersection of Foul Bay Road and Haultain Street at 1:15 p.m. for a report of a pedestrian hit.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver remained at the scene. Upon investigation, police determined the driver was headed southbound on Foul Bay Road and failed to stop when a pedestrian entered the crosswalk.

The driver was issued a violation ticket for failing to exercise duty to a pedestrian.

Police closed Foul Bay Road to traffic between Carrick and Haultain streets until approximately 4:30 p.m.
