Police seek suspect in stabbing incident

Victoria police are trying to figure out a chain of events that led to a stabbing in the downtown core Friday afternoon.

Victoria police are trying to figure out a chain of events that led to a stabbing in the downtown core Friday afternoon.

Police were called to Our Place Society drop-in centre, at 919 Pandora Avenue, at about 1:30 p.m. Nov. 25 after receiving several 9-1-1 calls about the incident. The victim, a man in his 20s, received multiple stab wounds and was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries. Police have yet to identify a suspect.

"We're still trying to talk to people and determine what happened," said VicPD spokesperson Mike Tucker. "There were about 200 people at this location at the time. A lot of people, as you can appreciate, took off with the police presence. So we're trying to track down some of those witnesses and determine exactly what happened."

The victim is refusing to talk to investigators, further complicating matters.

"He didn't want to speak about any motive or if he knew the suspect," Tucker said.

Police cordoned off an area surrounding the building and were keeping many of the shelter's clients outside while they gathered evidence.

One man who witnessed the immediate aftermath said he saw at least three different places where the man had been stabbed.

"He was stabbed in the abdomen, I saw a stab wound in the upper chest part, and then I saw a stab wound in the arm," said Douglas McLean, an Our Place client.

In a separate incident that took place after police had arrived on scene, a woman attempting to cross Pandora Ave. in front of Our Place was struck by a car. Police  immediately attended to the victim, whose injuries were unknown.
