An attempted abduction of a teen in Oak Bay has police seeking help in identifying a suspect.
A 14-year-old girl was walking to meet her father after a visit with a friend at 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, when she was approached by a man she didn't know at the corner of Cadboro Bay Road and Estevan Avenue.
The man hit the girl, pushed her against a wall then knocked her to the ground. He told the girl, "You're coming with me."
Just then, another man came around the corner and startled the attacker, who ran off. Hours later, the teen's mother learned of the attack and reported it to police.
The girl described the suspect as about 20 years old, with a goatee and wearing a black toque and a dark hoodie.
Officers hope to talk to the man who intervened, as well as any other witnesses to the event.
"It's uncommon in Oak Bay, but anywhere this might (have) happened, it's of utmost importance to the police," said Oak Bay Police Dept. Chief Kent Thom.

The windows of three vehicles were smashed overnight on Jan. 15. Objects inside that were left visible were taken from vehicles in South Oak Bay, including a cellphone.
While it's a positive that drivers seem to be locking their cars, Thom said people should be still careful to keep valuables hidden or remove them from their vehicles.

An 84-year-old man will likely have his driver's licence reviewed after a collision with a cyclist last week.
On Jan. 10, the driver hit a 20-year-old man on a bike at the intersection of Gordon Head Road and Midgard Avenue.
The cyclist wasn't badly injured. Recognizing this, the driver left the scene. However, the incident was reported to police, who tracked him down.
Officers recommended the driver be charged with failing to remain at the scene of a collision under the Motor Vehicle Act, which carries a fine of up to $2,000. They've also written a letter to the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles, recommending the driver's licence be re-evaluated.
"If there's any injury whatsoever, it should be reported to police," Thom said. "In any case when a cyclist is thrown from a bike, the injuries might not be evident right away."
