The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit wrapped up an 11-day search of a Prospect Lake area property on Saturday after human remains were found on the site.

VIIMCU launched a massive search of the property in relation to a missing person case: Victoria’s Dana McKellar, a 51-year-old father, was originally reported missing back in September.

Through the investigation, police discovered McKellar had been assaulted in Victoria last July. The investigation then led them to a 12-acre property in the 100-block of Goward Rd.

The search of the property began on June 2 and included 90 officers. On June 11, remains later confirmed to be human were discovered on the site. Investigators also found containers of a non-toxic substance.

VicPD have advised McKellar’s family of the latest developments and the B.C. Coroners Service is working to confirom if the remains discovered are those of Dana McKellar.
