The use of gas fires on Oak Bay beaches is now officially legal.
People are allowed to bring portable barbecues and stoves down to the beach after council voted in favour of changing the bylaw last night (June 11).
Fires are allowed from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and are restricted to gas appliances – wood and charcoal are not allowed.
The new bylaw notes that fires will not be permitted during the Oak Bay Tea Party weekend or at any other time that the Fire Chief or Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture deems necessary.
