Three quick-acting RCMP officers found and removed a 20-year-old North Cowichan woman from a creek early this morning.

The woman, who police were told was in distress, had been reported missing just after 12:34 a.m. after wandering away from her home in the Menzies Road area west of Duncan.

“Within minutes Const. Charette-Thibault, Const. Hawley and Cpl. Merrick were on scene and had located the young lady sitting in the middle of a creek. She was hypothermic, still in considerable distress and not dressed for the inclement weather,” North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP detachment spokesperson Cpl. Cari Lougheed said in a news release.

“The officers took quick action, recovering her from the creek and transporting her to Cowichan District Hospital for medical treatment.”

Detachment commander Insp. Chris Bear lauded his officers.

“The actions of these three officers was outstanding and a demonstration of the lengths the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP officers will go to, to keep those in our community safe,” he said.
