Saanich: Do you know your riding?

Despite what the names of the electoral districts may suggest, Saanich residents will also be voting in the Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca and Victoria ridings as well as in Saanich-Gulf Islands, depending on where you live.

In general, only residents living east of the Pat Bay Highway (Broadmead, Gordon Head, Quadra) will be voting in the Saanich-Gulf Islands riding, where Conservative incumbent Gary Lunn squares off against federal Green Party leader Elizabeth May.

Saanich residents living in Cadboro Bay, or south of McKenzie Aveue and east of Shelbourne Street are in the Victoria riding. Also in that riding, where incumbent NDP MP Denise Savoie is up against Oak Bay Mayor (and first-time Liberal candidate) Christopher Causton, are all Victoria and Oak Bay residents.

All other Saanich residents living west of the Pat Bay (Gorge Tillicum, Royal Oak, Strawberry Vale) are in the Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca riding. Liberal MP Keith Martin is not seeking reelection in that electoral district, where Conservative Troy de Souza narrowly won in the 2008 federal election, and is now up against two councillors, Randall Garrison (Esquimalt, NDP) and Lillian Szpak (Langford, Liberal).
