Saanich have been tasked with making daycares an approved use for more areas of the municipality.
Mayor Frank Leonard, who brought the request forward Monday night, said many building managers have too much red tape when it comes to offering a place for a daycare operation.
Saanich director of planning says zoning bylaws currently allow daycares as a permitted use in two commercial, one industrial and eight institutional zones. A best-case scenario in a final report would see another 18 to 20 zones allowing daycare as a standard use.
"In some zones, (daycare) has just been left out, in other zones, we just need to clarify that it is, indeed, a permitted use," planning director Sharon Hvozdanski said.
