Saanich police arrest robbery suspect

21-year-old Saanich man facing charge in connection with robbery of Wilkinson Road Subway

A 21-year-old Saanich man has been arrested in connection with the Aug. 7 robbery of the Subway in the 4100 block of Wilkinson Road.

Saanich Police Major Crimes Investigators were able to identify the suspect Friday and Saanich Police and officers from the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant in the 900 block of Jasmine Avenue. The Saanich man, who is known to police, was arrested without incident. Police will be recommending a charge of one count of robbery with a firearm and are looking into other potential charges.

“Any crime involving a firearm creates a significant danger to the community as a whole.”  said acting Sgt. Jereme Leslie.  “We’re pleased to announce that we have arrested the robbery suspect and feel that our community is now safer.”

A lone male entered the Wilkinson Road Subway at around 9:40 p.m. Aug. 7. The suspect, who had been in the store earlier, walked up to the store employee and produced a handgun.  The suspect demanded money and, after receiving an undisclosed amount of money, fled the store.
