A Saanich couple was arrested last week after police uncovered a marijuana grow operation in a shipping container in the backyard of their home.

On Feb. 9, police executed a search warrant on the home in the 5900 block of West Saanich Rd. and discovered 10 pounds of dried marijuana, four ounces of cocaine and $2,600 in cash.

Police also found 656 plants in various stages inside a shipping container on the property.

"Six-hundred-fifty plants is a significant find," said Saanich police Sgt. Dean Jantzen. "It's tough to say how big of an impact a grow like this would have on Greater Victoria."

A 50-year-old man was arrested and faces cultivation and trafficking charges. He was released and will appear in court at a later date.

His 27-year-old wife was also arrested, but was not charged.
