A man was cautioned by Victoria police Friday about his use of a pellet gun in residential areas after a cat suffered a suspected pellet injury.
Police were called to Johnson Street around 11 a.m. by a man complaining that his cat had been shot in the paw. The feline was still bleeding when officers arrived, and it walked with a noticeable limp.
"The complainant had seen another person in the area with a pellet gun, possibly shooting at squirrels on several occasions, and officers managed to locate that person later on," Deputy Police Chief John Ducker said on the department's operations online blog. "He strenuously denied any shooting at the cat in question."
Without evidence linking the man to actions that caused cruelty to an animal, police have not been able to continue with their investigation.
