Teachers' demonstration will pack ferries

B.C. Ferries warns people of busy sailings as teachers converge on legislature lawns today

B.C. Ferries is warning riders of busy sailings today.

With between 5,000 and 7,000 teachers from across the province expected to arrive in Victoria today to protest proposed government legislation that could force them to return to work, the ferry corporation said certain sailing times could be packed.

Teachers are on strike today, March 6, and tomorrow, March 7, in the Saanich school district and across the province.

The 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. ferries travelling from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay were very busy.

The 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. ferries travelling from Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen are expected to be busy as well.

"Customers are encouraged to plan their travels accordingly and to choose alternate sailing times to avoid vehicle and foot passenger overloads," B.C. Ferries wrote on its website. "Customers may also consider travelling the Tsawwassen–Departure Bay and the Horseshoe Bay–Departure Bay routes."
