A Langford teen was taught a lesson in safety and common sense by West Shore RCMP after someone called the police Wednesday (Feb. 2) to report a man sitting in a car outside a Langford financial institution with a gun – which turned out to be an airsoft gun.

Police responded to the call around noon and found a 17 year old in a vehicle in the 800 block of Kelly Road with an airsoft gun. The teen was arrested and officers found a total of three airsoft guns in the vehicle.

Witnesses confirmed that the guns were never pointed at anyone. The youth was released and educated by the officers about the seriousness of the incident. The airsoft guns were later returned to an adult.

“The optics of the report and police response could have resulted in a much worse ending,” West Shore RCMP Const. Meghan Groulx said in a statement. “This is a reminder to properly handle airsoft guns or any weapon strongly resembling a firearm.”
