A woman and her large dog were attacked after a cat wandered onto her Anton Place property and didn’t want to leave.

On Nov. 4, the woman noticed the cat on her lawn and sent her Great Pyrenees dog outside to scare the feline away. The cat, however, didn’t budge, instead it clawed at the dog’s face.

The woman then confronted the cat, but she, too, was rebuffed, suffering significant scratches to her arms and hands.

Saanich pound officers were called, but the cat was gone by the time they arrived.

“Sending your dog out to chase the cat is probably not the best way to shoo away a cat,” said pound officer Derek Rees. He said water scarecrows and pepper-laced repellents are among the products that can be used to ward off unwanted critters.

“Maybe buy a huge alligator,” Rees joked. “Cats are cats. They’re curious little guys and they like to go everywhere.”
