With all the holiday fun and New Year’s resolutions, one tiny task may have slipped your mind, so the districts of Central and North Saanich are reminding pet owners to make sure their dogs are licensed for 2019.

Registering your pup with the municipality helps keep information current and complies with bylaws.

In December 2017, the District of Central Saanich moved to issue permanent dog tags, however, those still require renewals. The regular fee for each licence – valid for the calendar year in which it is obtained – is $30 for spayed and neutered dogs and $45 for unspayed.

If you’re late (post March 1) the price goes up $10. Replacement tags are $5.

Residents can apply for a dog licence at municipal hall and pay with cash, cheque, debit or through online banking.

In North Saanich, you have until Feb. 28 to get registered and fees mirror those in Central Saanich.

In Sidney, you get $5 back if you renew before the last working day in February. Otherwise, regular fees for spayed and neutered pets are $25 and $35 for those not spayed.

And there are perks. While the municipalities issue dog licences, the CRD enforces the bylaws and have created the Petiquette Perks Reward Program.

Local businesses (dog training, grooming, veterinarians, etc.) provide discounts for those enrolled – check out a list of participating partners at CRD.bc.ca/service/animal-pets/petiquette-perks.
