Transit maps out future

B.C. Transit’s 25-year vision for service in Greater Victoria, known as the Transit Future Plan network, was approved by the Victoria Regional Transit Commission Tuesday.

The document lays out how the transit network will look in 25 years, and outlines ways – such as with a rapid-transit system – that can be accomplished.

“The way we see the 25-year plan is actually as a living document,” said Joanna Linsangan, B.C. Transit spokesperson. “And we would be reviewing it every five years.”

Municipal approval was sought to ensure the transportation plan aligned with local land use. All municipalities in Greater Victoria endorsed the plan, with the exception of Metchosin.

Calls to the District of Metchosin were not returned.

B.C. Transit’s board of directors will consider the plan for approval on Thursday (May 26).
