UPDATE: Driver uninjured following crash into deep median ditch in Sidney

Traffic delayed on Canora Road early Wednesday morning

A driver walked away unscathed after crashing their vehicle into a rain-soaked median ditch in Sidney Wednesday morning.

The Sidney Volunteer Fire Department was called to the scene of the single-vehicle crash on Canora Road between Bowcott Place and Frost Avenue just before 7:30 a.m. Deputy Fire Chief Mike Harman told Black Press Media the driver was able to extract themself from their vehicle before emergency crews arrived.

He said the cause of the crash is unknown, but that dark, rainy conditions combined with the fact that the driver wasn’t from the area are likely factors.

Commuters travelling through the area experienced minor delays while a tow truck extracted the SUV from the deep median ditch. Harman said the area was clear by 9 a.m.
