Victoria jewelry store targeted by balaclava-wearing thief

Suspect makes off with rings and other jewelry

Police are asking the public to help them find a jewelry thief after a downtown Victoria jewelry store was robbed Monday.

A man holding what looked like a gun walked into the Old 'N' Gold jewelry store at 706 Fort St. just before 5 p.m.

"The man threatened the store employee and loaded rings and other jewelry into a dark-coloured backpack," Victoria police Const. Mike Russell said in a statement.

The suspect then ran across Fort Street, into the Sussex building courtyard and headed east on Broughton Street.

He is described as between 5-foot-10 and 6-foot-2 with a medium build. He covered his face with a light-coloured balaclava, and was wearing a dark-coloured puffy jacket with the hood up.

Tips can be forwarded to Victoria police Det. Bill Trudeau at 250-995-7220 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
