The City of Victoria today announced its police force will submit a bid to continue policing Esquimalt.
"As an amalgamated force the Victoria Police Department has a proud history of serving Esquimalt and Victoria," mayor and police Board chair Dean Fortin said in a press release. "Our department has demonstrated its ability to deliver high quality, professional police services and I have great confidence in the men and women who serve these two communities each day."
The township of Esquimalt is currently policed by Victoria police.
Esquimalt sent a request for proposals on policing the community of 16,000 to Victoria police, Saanich police and the RCMP.
The deadline to confirm interest in submitting a proposal was yesterday (March 10).
Cpl. Darren Lagan confirmed the RCMP's E division operations branch will submit a proposal to Esquimalt.
Saanich Mayor Frank Leonard said he understood yesterday's deadline as one to confirm receipt of the RFP, but not confirm whether the municipality would submit a proposal.
Proposals are due to Esquimalt municipal hall April 20 at 2 p.m. and Esquimalt council must make a decision on its choice by June 30.
