Victoria police release sketch in child abduction attempt

Child approached on Princess Avenue in late June likely not linked to previous attempts say Victoria police

VicPD released this sketch of a suspect in what they're calling an attempted child abduction near George Jay elementary in late June.

VicPD is releasing a newly created composite sketch and vehicle description of the man suspected in last month’s attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl.

A girl on her way to George Jay elementary, on Princess Avenue, was approached by a man before 9 a.m. on June 27. Police said the suspect tried to convince the girl to get into his van. She ran away and told school officials.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 40s, with a white beard and blond hair in a ponytail, he was wearing a white shirt and blue jeans. He was also wearing glasses and is believed to be a smoker. The vehicle is described as a white or light coloured van with noticeable graffiti, in black, on the passenger side. There was also obvious damage around the rear license plate.

The incident marked the fourth report of a suspected child luring at an elementary school in recent months. Although police don’t believe this case is connected to three incidents at Oaklands elementary school, parents should remain vigilant.
