A man suspected of damaging vehicles near and during the anti-vaccine mandate rally on Saturday, Feb. 5 has turned himself into Victoria police.
The man, who was suspected of damaging vehicles in the parking lot of 481 Kingston St. and whose photograph was circulated by VicPD on Monday, was arrested for three counts of mischief under $5,000 following his surrender to police on Feb. 9, VicPD said in a press release. The man was released with a future court date.
Several hundred people attended the Feb. 5 protest at the B.C. legislature to oppose COVID-related health measures for the second weekend in a row. Vehicles looped around the area honking their horns and parking spaces were at a premium all around the area.
During the protest and counter-protest, VicPD officers were approached by people who had parked at Kingston St. and said they witnessed a man damaging their vehicles. Several vehicles in the Kingston lot sustained damage to their paint and tires, while others had items stolen from them, VicPD said.
Officers searched the area but couldn’t find the man, according to a release. Once the protest wound down, officers re-connected with the people who made the report, received his photo and continued the investigation.
Charges have yet to be laid, and the VicPD file remains under investigation.
