Witness says two employees helped put out blaze

Employees at the Staples near Mayfair Mall helped contain a fire that was outside the building Friday night, according to a witness.

Anna-Theresa Bates said she and her husband spotted the fire around 9:15 p.m. on Friday night as they were driving in their vehicle on the 700-block of Tolmie Avenue.

Bates said it appeared as if an office chair was on fire. She said she called 911 and her husband ran into the store to notify employess about the blaze. Bates was able to catch video of the fire as well.

“It happened all so fast,” Bates said.

Two Staples staff members used two fire extinguishers to contain the fire, Bates said.

Bates said police and fire arrived at the scene shortly before 9:30 p.m.
