In Loving Memory ~
Colin John Willis Nicholson, 88, of Victoria passed away on December 2, 2024. Son of Cecil Willis Nicholson, and Hannah Margaret Hansen. Colin was born on March 15, 1936, at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, B.C.
Living in Zeballos for his first 6 years, Colin moved to Tofino in 1942 with his mom and dad where everyone in town knew about and happily shared their family history and adventures. He met his future wife Joan when she caught a glimpse of him when she was 8 and Colin was 6 and their true love story began in 1955 when they married and moved to Victoria.
Colin started working at the Hudson Bay Company in September 1955 and after graduating with his 4th class stationary engineering certificate from School District SD61 in 1971 it kickstarted a 42 year long career with The Bay as an Engineer.
After retiring, he was never satisfied with sitting still. During his retirement years Colin spent his time at the Victoria Horseshoe Club, and the Saanich Sommeliers where he truly found a team like family. He spent his days tinkering around the garden, spending time with his wife Joan and his family.
Colin was blessed with a large and loving family. He is survived by his wife, Joan Helen Nicholson (Malon), their children Brett Nicholson and wife Deb, Wade Nicholson and wife Lorraine, Terri Irmscher and husband Travis; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren as well as many, many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
While we lost our most beloved husband and dad, many have lost a friend and loved one in him. He has been a rock to many, a master of hugs and no matter what happened between you in your lives, once you were marked as important to him, he'd be by your side if you needed him.
There was so much more to him than just a dad, though that was his greatest roll-he was also a friend, a co-worker, and colleague, a cousin, brother, a handyman, garden designer, wine maker, the list goes on and on. His passing was sudden and unexpected but quick, just like he always hoped it would be.
We invite you all to join us in the spring when we celebrate his life at the Victoria Horseshoe Club.
