She was the center of my universe, my cherished constant companion for 53 years.
It is with sorrow beyond words that I report her passing on November 11th, with family by her side, at her home in Saanich. She is survived by her son Travis and grandsons Wesley and Cormac, sisters Valerie and Jennifer, brother Mark, numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Gill attended elementary school and junior high school in Courteney before moving to Victoria to attend Oak Bay High
School, then on to the University of Victoria, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in education. She followed this by receiving a teaching certificate from UBC. Immediately thereafter she was offered a teaching position at Brentwood elementary school, where she would continue her teaching career for thirty-five years. For ten years following her retirement she would direct and produce musical theatre performances for Saanich schools as a much sought after "artist in residence". Her performances invariably resulted in "standing room only".
Anyone who knew Gill during those years would attest to the immense respect and affection she garnered from her colleagues, parents and especially students.
Beloved wife, mother and sister, steadfast and caring friend, dedicated teacher, passionate and gifted musician and an accomplished athlete, Gill was all these. She met the inevitable with courage, grace, perseverance and humor that very few could muster.
Her passing has left a void that cannot be filled. My pride in her is constant and endless. She is simply the most worthwhile person I have ever met or ever will.
Rest well Gilly, till we're one again.
