Drivers must keep an eye out for cyclists

Recently a cyclist going to work on the Galloping Goose Trail was struck where “The Goose” connects to Darwin Road, near the municipal hall.

The driver slowed down but did not stop for the stop sign and collided with the cyclist. The driver stated he did not see her because he was looking the other way. Other cyclists agreed with the victim that the man did not stop.

It is municipal tax time and perhaps the driver only travels to this location once a year to request his grant or he may have been talking to his passenger. It would appear inattention was involved in his failure to yield to a stop sign.

Although my roommate is a very careful cyclist and wasn’t injured seriously because she wasn’t travelling fast due to the intersection and familiarity with the route, she could have been. Distracted driving now kills more people than drunk drivers.
