Am I the only Saanich resident and taxpayer that is shocked and outraged at the “contract” offered to the municipality’s current chief of police to stay on the job for at least the next two years.
It is not as though he is in charge of a big city police force, he is only in charge of a police force made up of a portion of the Greater Victoria area. Why has there been no plan of succession to fill the position?
Nobody is indispensable and this contract must be very discouraging for morale of the current members of the force in that they hold out no hope of being promoted to the job. Why do we need to look outside the region for a replacement?
This contract will, over two years, reward the current police chief more than many will earn in a lifetime. Time to vote all of the current free-spending council out of office at the next municipal election. Their taxpayers want value for money which is something we are not getting at the moment.
