To the person writing about the gorse, I fear that the wrong lessons have been learned from the experience with that invasive.

I would strongly recommend joining a local Saanich Park’s Pulling Together program team. Each group consists of highly dedicated individuals with solid experience with respect to invasive species.

I’m sure they would be more than willing to share their expertise about proper and appropriate management/control practices. As an aside, they are also just all-round nice people, as are Park’s own Pulling Together staff.

You will learn It is not necessarily to accept the presence of a destructive invasive species like broom as a preventative measure against other difficult invasive species; it’s only a matter of doing things right.

As always, the healthiest ecosystems are those with minimal intrusion from invasives.
