Residential at Uptown a significant missing piece

Re: Uptown construction nears end, (News, Aug. 17).

I read with dismay that “the residential phase in the northern two acres of Uptown remains on hold.”

It was always my understanding that a key ingredient for allowing this major development to proceed was the design factor of “live, work, and shop in the same location.”

The importance of that sort of community is totally disregarded if the developer is allowed to build two phases of commercial properties without the promised residential component.

It now seems that there is no money on the line for the most unique aspect of the plan. How was this order of construction permitted, and what can be done to rectify it? (No, I’m not a “new partner with deep pockets”.)
