True alcohol reading makes a difference in ‘one for the road’

While out for our Christmas dinner, my wife and I overheard an interesting conversation at the next table.

The two fellows talking were rather loud, as they had a few drinks with their meal, and were at the stage of lying to each other about anything that came to mind. One man told the other that the breathalyzer device was actually set at one per cent blood alcohol concentration (not .08, as I had always heard.)

Luckily, they had no more to drink, but it makes a person wonder if that ‘one for the road’ is really that dangerous?
