Janet Gairdner
Janet’s passion for newspapers began in high school writing for her school newspaper. Since then, she has garnered extensive experience in media. As a communications and advertising accredited professional, she has held positions at an advertising agency and in the television industry. She first joined Black Press in 2009 and since that time, she has held the positions of Advertising Consultant, Advertising Director for Boulevard and Monday Magazine and is currently the Publisher of Oak Bay News, Tweed Magazine and Saanich News. Active in the community, Janet has volunteered with the Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Victoria and the Boys and Girls Club, among others. A self-professed foodie, she enjoys reading, gardening and travelling.

Wolf Depner
Wolf joined the Saanich News in October 2016 with more than a decade’s worth of experience in print journalism, primarily in the Okanagan Valley, where he has worked for the Penticton Western News and Summerland Review among other papers. His writing has also appeared in Diplomat and International Canada. He holds degrees from the University of British Columbia and the University of Western Ontario and recently worked at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan Campus.

Circulation Manager
Laura Cross
Laura relocated from Oahu, Hawaii six years ago and has worked for Black Press for four years. She started out doing part-time auditing, then became the circulation manager for Peninsula News and has since moved to Saanich News where she manages circulation.

Sarah Taylor
Sarah has worked for Black Press since 2008. Before joining Black Press, Sarah studied advertising and public relations at Lethbridge Community College before completing her BA in Communications at Royal Roads University.

Mitchell Sora
Mitchell has been with Black press since February 2018. Prior to this, Mitchell studied economics and entrepreneurship at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Originally from Pickering, Ont., Mitchell has a history of forming a strong sense of community. Whether it was in Pickering or Bowling Green, Mitchell has organized several fundraisers and events to benefit the lives of the surrounding community. He currently plays rugby as a member of the James Bay Athletic Association and the British Columbia 7s team.

Graphic Designer
Heather Kohler
Heather Kohler was born in Buffalo, NY, raised in Austin, TX where she studied Sociology, Evolutionary Theory and Psychology (Trinity University, San Antonio), and enjoys dual Citizenship.
Heather honed her Graphic Design expertise for print, broadcast, and web applications, commercial branding, and architectural brand identity initiatives while in Chicago as Art Director of Kennedy & Associates Advertising, before relocating to Victoria, BC in 2002 where she continues to apply those skills for local clients, government and community groups.
Heather and her husband, Sean Cowie, a high-school teacher, love living in Victoria, where they are avid hikers and tennis players. Heather is a member of the Woman’s Club of Evanston and The Union Club of British Columbia.
