Beaver Lake hosts Island cross country race Wednesday

Vancouver Island High School Cross Country Championships at Beaver Lake Park on Wednesday, Oct. 28

High school runners will take to a familiar course today at the Vancouver Island High School Cross Country Championships in Beaver Lake Park.

Reynolds secondary is the senior boys team to beat with cross country standouts Brendan Hoff and Taylor Lyman returning from last year. Mount Douglas secondary’s Hannah Henry will be in tough against fellow triathlete specialist Desirae Ridenour of Cowichan secondary among the senior girls favourites.

There are five qualifying spots for teams at the BC Championships, which are Nov. 7 at Jericho Beach in Vancouver.

Saanich favourites at the junior level are Kalum Delaney of Reynolds among the boys and Ashley Cathro of Claremont among the girls.

The junior girls race starts at 1 p.m., junior boys at 1:30 p.m., senior girls at 2 p.m. and senior boys at 2:30, and awards at 3:15 p.m.
