Braves run win streak over Cougars to four games

Acquisition Michael Sproule has scored three assists since joining the Braves last week.

The Saanich Braves ended a six game winning streak on Jan. 10 with a 3-2 road loss to the Kerry Park Islanders.

The loss is irrelevant for the Braves, who are enjoying one of their finest seasons in the modern era.

The Braves won the next game 7-2 over the Westshore Wolves and are 24-10-1, second behind by the Cougars (25-8) in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League’s South division. During the win streak the Braves defeated the Cougars 3-2 in overtime at Pearkes. Dale McCabe scored the winner from Nick Guerra.

Captain Nick Guerra continues to lead the VIJHL in scoring with 36 goals and 25 assists in 31 games. However, another 20-year-old, Colin Blake of the Campbell River Storm, is making it a race with 58 points to Guerra’s 58. McCabe is fourth in league scoring with 48 points.

Acquisition Michael Sproule has scored three assists since joining the Braves last week.

Next up for the Braves is a rare Friday away game at Panorama, 7:30 p.m. against the Panthers.
