Host Chargers open CCCA volleyball nationals Thursday

The Camosun Chargers host the 2017 CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship at the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence on Interurban campus this week.

The championship celebration kicks off with the CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship Awards Banquet at the Harbour Towers Hotel Wednesday evening, 6:30 to 9 p.m. The CCAA will name the 2017 All-Canadians and announce the CCAA Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year and Coach of the Year.

The keynote speaker tonight is Michelle Cameron Coulter, a six-time World Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist  in synchronized swimming and the proud mother of four children including Jacqueline, a right side hitter on the Chargers.

Players, coaches and fans from across Canada will gather in Victoria to take part in the four-day event which begins Wednesday, March 8 and runs to Saturday, March 11. The top eight teams from the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association’s five conferences will compete for the crown, including Island rivals, Camosun and VIU.

Joining the Camosun Chargers are the VIU Mariners, Humber Hawks (Toronto, Ont.), Lynx d'Édouard Montpetit (Longueuil, Que.), Lakeland Rustlers (Lloydminster, Alta.), Mount Saint Vincent Mystics (Halifax, N.S.), GPRC Wolves (Grande Prairie, Alta.), Cavaliers de Bois-de-Boulogne (Montreal, Que.).
