Jock Talk: Oak Bay High volleyball teams set for Islands

Oak Bay High hosts the volleyball AAA senior boys Island championships today (Friday, Nov. 17) and Saturday.

Oak Bay hits the main gym floor at noon Friday against Belmont, before facing Reynolds at 2:30 p.m. and Cowichan at 6:15 p.m. Playoffs get underway at 10 a.m. Saturday with the bronze medal game at 5:30 p.m. and the gold medal game opening at 7:15 p.m.

Oak Bay’s senior girls’ volleyball squad will cross town to Belmont High today (Friday, Nov. 17) to take on the Island’s best in the 4A division. Joining Oak Bay and the hosts will be Claremont, Mt. Doug, Belmont, Spectrum and Reynolds.

From high school volleyball to university basketball, the University of Victoria Vikes return to the hardwood with both the men’s and women’s basketball teams hosting Saskatchewan this weekend. Starting tonight (Friday, Nov. 17) the women take the floor at 6 p.m. before the men take on their respective team at 8 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 18 has the women playing first at 5 p.m. followed by the men at 7 p.m. All games take place on campus at CARSA.

It’s a busy week for Oak Bay women’s soccer. The Div. 1 Castaways FC and Bays United FC go head to head Sunday, Nov. 19 in a 4:30 p.m. tilt at the Oak Bay High turf. Div. 2 play has Bays United FC and Castaways FC facing off with a noon match, also at Oak Bay High School on Sunday, Nov. 19.

Men’s play opens Friday, Nov. 17 with the MC Bays United men visiting the Saanich Fusion FC at 6 p.m. at Tyndall Park while at 7 p.m. the Div. 1 Bays United takes on Gorge FC at Hampton Park. On Sunday, Nov. 19, the Div. 3B Castaways FC visit Gorge FC at Hampton Park at 2:15 p.m. while the 3A Bays United FC hosts Gorge team at Oak Bay High, also at 2:15 p.m.
