The Royal Oak middle school Grade 8 girls capped off a fantastic season by clinching the city volleyball championship Wednesday night on home turf.
Coaches Jim and Abby Phillips led the team to a solid season, finishing with 28 wins and two losses to earn the first place spot in the city. In playoffs, they won nine of 10 games, shutting down Bayside in the final in two sets to capture the city crown.
