A group of Boardworks divers set a series of provincial records Saturday and Sunday in their home dive tank, Saanich Commonwealth Place, for the 2017 B.C. Summer Provincial Diving Championships.

The summer championships were a qualification event for the Junior Development Nationals coming to Saanich Commonwealth Place July 7 to 9, and the Junior Elite Nationals July 21 to 23 in Montreal.

Carson Paul, 12, a Grade 7 student at Royal Oak middle school and a junior national team member, was one of two Boardworks divers to win triple gold. Paul topped the boys 12-and-13 field in the one- and three-metre boards and on the 10m platform.

He also broke the provincial and club records in the one-metre and three-metre events, previously held by two-time Olympian and longtime Boardworks diver Riley McCormick since 2004.

Eleven-year-old Keira Lu out of Hillcrest elementary also earned a triple gold result. Lu led the girls 10-11 age group in the one-metre, three-metre and 10m platform, breaking the club record in the one-metre previously held by Commonwealth Games athlete, and former Boardworks diver, Rachel Kemp since 2004.

Also winning gold out of Boardworks was youngster Jackson Congdon, a nine-year-old gold medallist on the one-metre. Congdon broke the pool and club record with his one-metre dives.

Both of the upcoming Junior Development Nationals and Junior Elite Nationals will be used to select the National team which will represent Canada at the Pan Am Junior Diving Championships Sept. 29 to Oct. 1 at Saanich Commonwealth Pool.
