Saanich Fusion struck double gold at last weekend’s provincial soccer championship in Vernon.
Saanich scored on a free kick in the final minute to edge the Chilliwack Attack 2-1 in the Boys U13 final. The Fusion also walked away with the Fair Play Team Award from the tournament after going 3-0 in the round robin portion, outscoring their opponents 16-1. The Fusion knocked off South Burnaby Spartans 2-1, blanked Nelson Selects 7-0 and trounced Terrace Selects 7-0.
Saanich Fusion also took gold in the U17 division. Saanich shut out the Williams Lake Storm 5-0, played to a 1-1 draw with South Delta United, edged the Terrace Selects 3-2, upended Bulkley Valley Rapids 2-1 and stopped PMO Barcelona 3-2.
